2022-08-05: Indoor Masking Strongly Encouraged and Additional COVID-19 Updates (Posted on Behalf of the COVID-19 Response Team)

August 5, 2022

Dear Members of Our Campus Community,

With Santa Barbara County reporting ongoing COVID-19 community transmission, we want to remind our campus community that indoor masking in shared spaces on campus continues to be strongly encouraged, in alignment with the recommendations recently released by the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department.

Face masks, both surgical and N95, are available without charge for students, faculty, and staff at the UCEN Campus Store Customer Service desk and the A.S. Pardall Center, and at other locations on campus. Departments may request larger quantities of masks by sending an email request to UCSB-maskrequest@ucsb.edu.
We also encourage everyone in our community to sign up for CA Notify, a free service app for your smartphone that will inform you if you have been exposed to COVID-19, and also notifies others if you test positive, while allowing you to remain anonymous.
COVID-19 PCR campus testing continues to be available without charge for students, faculty, and staff by appointment through the Student Health Patient Portal. Free at-home rapid antigen test kits can be obtained at the UCSB Campus Bookstore Customer Service Desk and various other locations across campus, and ordered by departments through COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Request. Please report any positive test results from home or outside testing through the "New Message" section on the Student Health Patient Portal.
Our campus medical experts and the COVID-19 Working Group and Response Team continue to meet regularly throughout the summer to assess COVID-19 policies and scientific data and to review and revise, as warranted, our campus mitigation protocols, which include the type of face masking that will be needed for Fall. We will continue to update our community as the situation warrants, via email and on our campus COVID-19 information web pages
As the pandemic continues to evolve, we are grateful to everyone whose individual actions are helping us to overcome the challenges of COVID-19. If you receive an email asking you to obtain a campus COVID-19 test as part of our Early Detection and Screening Monitoring Program, please participate to help us assess the level of COVID-19 on the campus. Thank you for prioritizing the health and welfare of our community.
If you have any questions about this or other COVID-19 matters, please email our COVID-19 Response Team at ucsb-covid19@ucsb.edu

Sincerely,
