Re:  JOIN US: Ellwood Marine Terminal Site Tour

You’re Invited to a Tour of the Ellwood Marine Terminal Site!

Community members are invited to a site tour of Ellwood Marine Terminal (EMT) on Ellwood Mesa. This tour will welcome participants to the 19-acre site and provide an opportunity to learn about the draft restoration plans, share initial perspectives, and exchange ideas about public access and connection to this space.

The EMT Demolition and Restoration Project, led by the University of California Santa Barbara Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration with support from the California State Coastal Conservancy, envisions restoring the cultural and historical high point and natural habitat for the community’s well-being and enjoyment. The project is committed to collaborating with and integrating Native Nations and community guidance into the site’s restoration and design.

Strategic Earth Consulting is facilitating the community engagement approach to support the development of an informed site design that honors the Native Nations' heritage and the broader community's vision for the space. Our team will coordinate communications and be an impartial facilitator to help guide discussions and ensure all voices are heard and considered.

Community Site Tour Details:

  • Registration: Please register in advance for one (or more) of the dates offered. Once you register, we will contact you with additional information, including meeting location, site map, site access details, etc.

  • Our Time Together: Each gathering will follow this general approach and timeline:

    • First hour: Native Nation leadership and Native community members meet for initial orientation and conversation about draft restoration ideas.

    • Second hour and a half: The public will be invited to join Native community members for a tour, and everyone will walk or be transported to the site.

Please share the event information and flyer with your community to help ensure this invitation is widely distributed. If you are unable to attend one of the date/time options provided, please contact noelia@strategicearth.com to coordinate a site visit that works for your schedule.

As the project continues, we look forward to additional engagement opportunities and gatherings with community members. We look forward to following up with you directly to explore the additional opportunities together.

If you have any questions, please email noelia@strategicearth.com. We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

Noelia Aponte-Silva and Lisa Stratton, on behalf of the EMT Demolition and Restoration Project Team
