RE: Next Offering of Crucial Conversationsⓒ
Dear Campus Colleagues:
The Office of the Ombuds is pleased to announce the next offering of Crucial Conversationsⓒ.
The course will take place, on-campus, in person, over four half days on December 9, 10, 11, and 13. Crucial Conversationsⓒ is a research-based conflict management program. The course provides skills to prevent, defuse, and resolve conflict. Through readings, videos, discussion, and most-importantly, hands-on practice, participants apply these skills to scenarios specifically for our community as well as real problems. Even our most experienced leaders have found this to be a valuable approach to addressing interpersonal problems, increasing their effectiveness in resolving situations.
This opportunity is open to all (staff, faculty, and students). The workshop will be led by Caroline Adams, Ombuds, and Lana Smith-Hale, Assistant Ombuds, certified Crucial Conversations facilitators. The ombuds have seen firsthand how conversations have gone “crucial” and how to turn those difficult moments into opportunities for a more productive and positive workplace.
The workshop will take place in the Annenberg Conference Room (SSMS 4315) from 8:30 am to 12 pm. The UCs have negotiated a special rate for about $230 per person which expires in December. Register with your recharge number at this linkby November 25. Payment assistance may be available, including the Dilling Yang Staff Scholarships. Space is limited and priority will be given to those who have not taken the course before. For any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to lanasmithhale@ucsb.edu.
