2024-02-20: Spring Security Newsletter on Behalf of CISO Jackson Muhirwe

A Message from the CISO

As the Spring Quarter comes swinging, I’m pleased to announce the Spring 2026 Newsletter. As the season suggests, it’s that time of the month to start spring cleaning your digital history.

In this edition, we provide actionable advice on scrubbing your digital history and staying vigilant against the latest "smishing" (SMS/text phishing) scams. We also take a critical look at the evolving risks posed by AI-powered threats and provide a briefing on the newest phishing tactics targeting the UC system.

Additionally, we also wanted to highlight Anthony Valentino in our Office of Information Security (OIS) team Spotlight. Anthony has made amazing contributions to information security across UCSB. Anthony serves as our Assistant Chief Information Security Officer, responsible for Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC), a critical part of our information security program.

As this school year wraps up, it’s important to reflect on how to keep your digital life clean. Thank you for taking the time to stay informed and engaged.

As always, have a safe and amazing spring quarter!

Sincerely,
Jackson Muhirwe
Chief Information Security Officer
