2026-06-02: Abandoned Bicycle Abatement: University Residence Halls and Apartment Complexes (on Behalf of Transportation and Parking Services and UCPD)

Abandoned Bicycle Abatement: University Residence Halls and Apartment Complexes

Student Safety Partners (SSPs) will be conducting an abandoned bicycle abatement around the Residence Halls, Apartments and Dining Commons.

 

Please read the information below carefully.

 

A tag will be attached to the front wheel of the bike and the rack, clear signage will also be posted.

Phase 1: Tagging, Signage & Initial Clearing 

  • Finals Week (Mon. 6/8 - Fri. 6/12): Signage will be placed on the bike racks surrounding Santa Rosa Residence Hall and De La Guerra Dining Commons.

  • Mon. 6/15: Please be advised that any bikes left in the racks surrounding Santa Rosa Residence Hall and De La Guerra Dining Commons will be considered abandoned and will be disposed of. 

Phase 2: Tagging & Signage Continues 

  • Tuesday, 6/16 - Friday, 6/19: Tagging and signage in remaining residential and dining commons areas continues. 

Phase 3: Clearing Continues 

  • Thursday, 6/18: Removal of abandoned bikes from specifically signed racks at San Rafael Residence Hall.

  • Monday, 6/22: Removal of unlocked abandoned bikes from Anacapa, Santa Cruz, San Miguel, San Nicolas & Ortega Dining Commons. 

Phase 4: Final Clearing 

  • Sunday, 7/5 at 12 p.m. (noon): Any bicycle still bearing an abatement tag at this time will be considered abandoned and officially impounded. 

If you believe your bike has been impounded, please call the CSO/SSP Office at 805-893-5293 to confirm. The cost to retrieve your bike from impound is $24.00 if registered and an additional $10 registration fee if it has not been previously registered.

If you don't plan to keep your bike, please consider donating it to AS Bike Shop, St. George Youth Center in IV or Bici Centro.

If interested in storing your bike with the CSO/SSP office over the summer, read below: 

The CSO/SSP Office will be open for one week to assist with Summer Bike Storage: Monday, June 8 - Friday, June 12 (12 p.m. – 3 p.m.). Availability is based on a first come first served basis. 

Location: Behind Public Safety Building (Parking Lot 32) on the corner of Henry T. Yang Drive and Stadium Road. 

Cost: $30.00 for summer storage and an additional $10.00 to register your bicycle (unless already registered). 

Last Day to Pick Up Your Bike if CSO Summer Bicycle Storage is used: Friday, October 2, 2026 (12 p.m. – 3 p.m.) 

Notes: 

  • Bicycles will be stored outdoors. 

  • Please make sure you bring a Photo ID. 

  • The registered owner must be present to store and pick up the bicycle.
