2027-07-08: Decommissioning Analog Fax Lines and Transitioning to Zoom Fax on behalf of ITS

As part of our ongoing campus modernization efforts, UCSB will phase out its legacy analog phone system.  Consequently, all analog fax services will be discontinued effective November 1, 2026.  To maintain continuity, we are transitioning all campus fax lines to Zoom Fax, which is integrated directly into the Zoom Phone infrastructure.

The legacy analog copper infrastructure is well past its end-of-life and requires decommissioning.  Transitioning to Zoom Fax aligns our campus communications and offers several key advantages:

• Zero Hardware Dependencies:  No specialized analog terminal adapters (ATAs) or physical fax machines are required.  Users manage everything via the Zoom desktop or mobile apps.

• Predictable Cost Structure:  There is no additional licensing fee for Zoom Fax beyond the standard monthly recurring charge (MRC) for the existing phone line.

• Enhanced Capabilities:  Supports file transfers up to 50MB or 200 pages, multiple file formats, custom cover pages, and simultaneous broadcasting to up to 50 recipients.

We want to ensure a smooth migration for your respective departments.  Over the coming weeks, our team will reach out directly to your department’s IT contacts to audit active lines, coordinate the migration schedule, and provide documentation for end-users.
