Research/Lab Group Samba Connections via UCSBNetID - Macintosh

These instructions are intended only for use by Lab/Research Groups who have requested file storage services from ECI. Other samba file server instructions are available here.

While off-campus, connections to your file server require that you first be connected to the UCSB campus VPN service.

  1. From the “Go” menu, click “Connect to Server…”

2. In the input box, type: smb://yourserver.engr.ucsb.edu where yourserver is the name of the server provided to you at setup.

Replace the 'X’es above with your actual server name.

3. Click Connect on the following notification.

4. Click the radio button next to “Registered User” then provide your UCSBNetID in the following format.

NETID\yourUCSBnetid

. . . followed by your password.

Then click “Connect.”

That is a “backslash” (\) after “NETID” and preceding your UCSBNetID

5. The connection to your server should now be available along the left-hand side of the Macintosh Finder application. From there, you can access it, or disconnect from it if desired.
