UCSB Maas360 - Manual Enrollment Procedure (Computer, Laptop and non-mobile devices)

Contents

Requirements:

  • Local administrative permissions on the computer to be enrolled.

  • Windows computer running a supported OS like Windows 10 or 11

  • Your computer has to have a name to identify it (the computer name is set via the windows settings)

  • No other Antivirus installed other than the UC provided Trellix/FireEye Antivirus or Windows Defender (comes with OS).

  • Computer connected to the internet (the faster the internet connection the better). If you need to register your computer for the wired ethernet on campus given it can easily be 10x the speed of the wifi, please see: Requesting a Network Connection

Recommended Prep:

  1. OS updates - based on test computers, we will want to make sure all computers are fully up to date before attempting to enroll them

    1. Windows 10 is End of Life on October 14, 2025, so if your computer is Windows 11 compatible, upgrade to Windows 11 first.

  2. Backups - If you are not already using Crashplan (Office of Research provided tool) or similar free software such as Google Drive to backup your desktop and documents, or backups to a portable hard drive to back up your entire disk or some other backup method, it would be a good idea to do so before we do any major changes to your computer. You can sync your bookmarks in both Chrome and Firefox between computers or export them to HTML files. Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and settle for something in between. Please let me know if you need any help setting this up, ECI's contact email is help@engineering.ucsb.edu

  3. Removing other non-Microsoft antivirus software other than Trellix/FireEye: Unfortunately anti-viruses tend to not play nice and it's recommended that you only have one on your system at a time. Maas360 will automatically install Trellix/FireEyE antivirus software on all managed computers.

  4. Renaming the computer with a unique name with no special characters or spaces if your department is using name based management. A lot of departments use 4 letter long department code followed by a unique name with all spaces turned to slashes. Some examples: COMS-EXAMPLE-PC or SSLEEC-XYZ-LAB-1 or CHNE-Xyz-Lab-1 would all be valid names

Enrollment Procedure:

  1. Contact ECI (help@engineering.ucsb.edu) to get the zipped up installer files

    1. Download the ZIP file (requires password):  https://ucsb.box.com/v/eci-mdm-toolkit

    2. or access https://ucsb.box.com/s/km9ueevps310zwx0l2wvsl2zd62x28tn (Requires UCSB SSO)

    3. Or have ECI share the files with you via box (Google Drive corrupts zip files and thus cannot be used)

  2. Extract the contents of the ZIP file locally.

  3. Run coe-enroll-maas360.exe as admin. (Right click on the file name and choose “Run as Administrator”)

    1. After some time expect a pop up about Maas360 to come up

    2. Some time after that, Trellix/FireEye will be installed and you may get a second pop up

    3. Depending on internet and processor speed, total time between running the exe file and everything being done installing may be several hours

  4. Run encrypt-cdrive.cmd as admin (Right click on the file name and choose “Run as Administrator” after confirming the user has backups, etc.)

We recommend leaving your system on for 24 hours as the scripts running in the background can take several hours to finish. You can walk away and just let them finish the processes.

  1. Final Step: Email help@engineering.ucsb.edu to let us know the computer names of the systems that you ran this on so that we can double check the maas360 console and confirm that the procedure completed successfully, once the systems appear on the list. Thank you.
