Extension and International Students taking Summer 2024 classes: Due to delays this year on paperwork processing ECI/CoE will not be informed of your class status until 2 weeks before the start of Summer quarter. Extension and International students may receive warning messages about their CoE account expiring in 30 days, 2 weeks, etc.. Please note that if you are already enrolled in Summer or Fall classes as of the end of 2nd pass for continuing students on June 21st, you should see no break in access and that your CoE account should automatically be extended before the start of Summer quarter on June 24th. |

...
The answer can vary based on what your affiliation is and what services you use, but in general, almost all UCSB community members have at least 4 types of accounts:

Coe Account invites are sent to everyone who is taking CoE class or research units if they do not already have

a CoE account.

CoE accounts are not created automatically.
Already existing CoE accounts are reactivated and extended even if they are expired.

Service accounts - These are accounts that provide you access to a particular service such as the UCSB Library or Adobe Federated ID for those whose departments have purchased Adobe Licenses through the Campus office of Software Licensing. The UCSB netid is the username used to sign-in to campus wide services and applications available to the UCSB community. Netid's are based on UCSB Identity records, which are automatically created for students, faculty, and staff. Campus affiliates and visitors may also have Identity records created to provide for access to UCSB netid based services. If you need a UCSBnetID renewal please speak to either your home department or Enterprise Technology Services ETS/ITS. The College of Engineering and Engineering Computing Infrastructure (ECI) generally do not have the ability to renew UCSBnetIDs. for more information see: https://www.identity.ucsb.edu/ |

NO, You will have multiple accounts during your time at UCSB. While many of them will use the same connect.ucsb.edu portal to access their emails, on the back end, they are still separate and can have separate usernames, passwords and expiration dates. When you create a CoE account, you are automatically granted a Connect account by default if you do not already have one, or have an engineering aliases added to your Connect account if you already have a Connect account. UCSBnetID = campus level services, Connect = campus wide email, CoE = College of Engineering level services. A few departments such as ECE still have departmental accounts separate from CoE for departmental level services. I got a notice my account is expiring, who do I talk to?
Note |

This will depend on which exact account is expiring. Please read all notices carefully and first verify they are actually from the account in question. Due to large amounts of spam and scams, if you have any questions, it may be better to not click any links in emails and instead go to the websites of the accounts in question directly. Note |

If you have some other alias such as Umail, then your Google Connect account will continue to work after CoE expiration. You will not have access to CoE resources nor will you have access to your CoE aliases but the rest of your Google account should be unaffected. If you do not have some other alias, then yes, when your CoE account is expired it may trigger Google Connect expiration as well. That is why we warn students whose CoE accounts are expiring that they may loose access. |

Automatic CoE extensions are based on affiliation with UCSB via class or research units or major. Please note that there can be up to a 2 week delay between when you enroll in classes and when you show up as enrolled in the Registrar’s database. If you are not a CoE major and not taking CoE classes, your account will eventually expire. Working with a professor on projects, papers, research, etc.. does count as “affiliation with the College of Engineering” and you can request a manual account extension.
