ECI Lab RDP Access - Windows Client (modern)
(Modern Windows RDP Client)
1.Ā Determine whether you would like to connect to a Windows or Linux lab computer.Ā This will determine which proxy/address you will use.
Linux:Ā eci-linux-lab.engr.ucsb.edu
Windows:Ā eci-win-lab.engr.ucsb.edu
2. While (already) connected to the UCSB VPN Network, open the Remote Desktop application on your Windows PC.
3.Ā Ā Click āAddā to create a new connection profile.
4.Ā Ā Choose āDesktop - Connect to a PCā
5.Ā In the āPC nameā field, type the proxy/address of the lab to which youād like to connect (see Step 1 above).Ā In the screenshot below, eci-win-lab.engr.ucsb.edu is used as an example. Once input, click the āSaveā button.Ā You should now see a saved profile for the connection.
If connecting to a Windows Lab computer, please proceed to Step 6.
If connecting to a Linux Lab computer, please skip to Step 11.
Connecting to Windows Lab Computers
6.Ā Double-click the saved connection profile.
7.Ā Click āConnectā on the following warning screen. . .
8.Ā Ā Prior to clicking Connect, enter your College of Engineering username and password.Ā The username should be in the form of: ECI\username
(preceding the username with āECI\ā ensures that the authentication domain is set correctly and is only necessary when connecting to Windows lab computers)
When ready, click āConnect.ā
Please Note:Ā These fields require your College of Engineering credentials rather than your UCSBNetID
9.Ā Upon successful authentication, you should be presented with a fully functional Windows Desktop.
10.Ā When finished with your remote desktop session, please log out of the remote computer (click Start ā Username ā Sign Out).
Connecting to Linux Lab Computers
11.Ā Prior to clicking Connect, enter your College of Engineering username and password.Ā Note: Do not pre-append āECI\ā to your username when making a connection to a Linux lab computer.
Please Note:Ā These fields require your College of Engineering credentials rather than your UCSBNetID
12.Ā Ā Click āConnectā on the warning screen that may appear.
13.Ā Ā Upon successful authentication, you should be presented with a fully functional Linux desktop.
Note:Ā All installed applications can be found under "Applications" in the upper-left corner of the screen.
14.Ā When finished with your remote desktop session, please log out of the remote computer (click the Power Icon in the upper-right corner, click your name, then "Log Out").
Note:Ā Please do not shut off the lab computer!
