Re:  UCSB Academic Senate Accepting Nominations

 

 

The UCSB Academic Senate is now accepting nominations for several campus-wide awards. Award winners will be announced at the Faculty Legislature meeting in April 2025.

 

 

  1. DISTINGUISHED TEACHING AWARDS

 

The Distinguished Teaching Awards acknowledge the efforts of faculty members who have successfully united excellence in teaching with excellence in creative and scholarly work.  Non-Senate faculty are judged on their excellence in teaching and their contributions to the teaching mission of the University.  The awards are intended to recognize the distinguished teaching accomplishments of the faculty, which may be exhibited at any time during a faculty member’s career. 

 

Up to six faculty (Senate and/or Non-Senate) are selected, each of whom receives an honorarium of $1,000 and a framed certificate.

 

Nomination deadline: December 13, 2024

 

 

  1. OUTSTANDING GRADUATE MENTOR AWARDS

 

The Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award recognizes the contributions of faculty whose mentoring is considered exemplary. Mentoring graduate students is a vital component of our mission as a research university; it includes training graduate students for careers in research and teaching and preparing them to meet the highest professional and ethical standards as scholars and educators. Outstanding mentoring sets standards for improving current practice and passing on best practice as our students become mentors to the next generation of scholars.

 

Up to three recipients are selected, each of whom receives an honorarium of $1,000 and a framed certificate.

  1. OUTSTANDING TEACHING ASSISTANT AWARDS

 

Teaching assistants play a vital role in enhancing the teaching mission of the University.  The Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards recognize the contributions of graduate students to the teaching and learning process at UC Santa Barbara.

 

Up to four recipients are selected, each of whom receives an honorarium of $1,000 and a framed certificate.

 

Nomination deadline: December 13, 2024

 

 

  1. FACULTY DIVERSITY AWARD

 

The Faculty Diversity Award recognizes Senate and non-Senate faculty who have engaged in or promoted exceptional contributions to the advancement of diversity, equality, and justice. Nominations are judged on the basis of extraordinary efforts to promote equal access, public service, research, or mentorship on behalf of California’s diverse, underrepresented, or underserved populations.

 

One Senate or non-Senate faculty member will be honored with this distinction, which includes an honorarium of $2,000 and a framed certificate.

 

Nomination deadline: December 13, 2024

 

 

  1. FACULTY RESEARCH LECTURER

 

The Faculty Research Lecturer Award is awarded annually to one faculty member determined to be the most distinguished in research or other creative achievement. The award is considered to be the highest honor the UCSB faculty bestows on one of its members. The award is intended to accord a member of the Academic Senate the high recognition that is their due, and further to give the community an opportunity to understand the scholarly achievements and points of view at a public lecture.

 

The Faculty Research Lecturer receives an honorarium of $5,000 and delivers a lecture or a similarly appropriate presentation.
