My Engineering Email Forwarding isn't working

Problem

You had your Engineering Email forwarding to another email account, and it is now no longer working

Reason

If you had your email forwarding set prior to August of 2017, due to the migration of mail accounts to UCSB Connect, that forwarding did not carry over.

Your Engineering Mail is now part of UCSB Connect, which is at https://connect.ucsb.edu and your login would be <UCSBNetID>@ucsb.edu with your UCSBNetID Password.

Solution

Forwarding to @ucsb.edu or @umail.ucsb.edu

Your @engineering.ucsb.edu address is currently tied to UCSB Connect's @ucsb.edu address.

As of September of 2018, UCSB's U-Mail system will also be fully migrated to UCSB Connect.

So if you wish to have your @engineering.ucsb.edu forwarding to either your @ucsb.edu address or your @umail.ucsb.edu address, you do not need to do anything further at this time.

Forwarding to an alternate address

For All Email

If you wish to have all your mail forwarded to another address (This includes your @ucsb.edu email...) you can follow the instructions provided at the following link:

How do I forward email to another address?

For a specific email address

If you only wish only a specific email address (IE: <user>@engineering.ucsb.edu, but not <user>@ucsb.edu) to forwarded to another address, you can create a GMail Filter to do this.

To do this, click on the pulldown on the Search mail section ().

This will give you a window similar to this:

Under the To, put in the email address you want mail forwarded (IE: <user>@engineering.ucsb.edu, but not <user>@ucsb.edu)

Then click on Create filter.

You will see the following window:

From here you can check off how the message should be handled, we recommend checking the following:

  • Skip the Inbox (Archive it) - As you don't need to see it in your inbox.
  • Mark as read - This is so you don't have to be bothered see what the email is about.
  • Delete it - If you don't want to keep a copy of the email on this account.
  • Forward it to: - Specify the email it should be forwarded to.

Once you have done this, click on Create filter button to finalize it.
