Mail bouncing when trying to send from Engineering Account
Problem
You send a message from your @engineering.ucsb.edu from the GMail app on your phone, and a day later you get a bounce message saying it couldn't be delivered.
Reason
You may have your personal GMail Account on the GMail App and your Personal GMail has a Send As address for @engineer.ucsb.edu account configured on it with the old mail server configuration.
Solution
There are two ways to deal with this issue.
Remove the Send As account on the personal account
Ideally, you don't want to have your personal account having the Send As account for the email address.
To remove it, you will want to do the following:
- Log onto your Personal GMail Account
- Click on the Gear () icon in the upper right hand corner, then click on Settings
- Click on Accounts and Import
- Go to the Send mail as: section and click on delete next to the email address.
Update the Send As Account on the personal account
If you still want to be able to send email on your personal account as your @engineering.ucsb.edu account, you should update the information with the proper information:
To update, you will need to do the following:
- Log onto your Personal GMail Account
- Click on the Gear () icon in the upper right hand corner, then click on Settings
- Click on Accounts and Import
- Go to the Send mail as: section and click on edit info next to the email address you need to update.
- Make sure the following settings are correct:
- SMTP Server is set to smtp.gmail.com
- Username is set to your UCSBNetID with @ucsb.edu added (IE: joe@ucsb.edu)
- Password is set to your UCSBNetID Password.
- Use the recommended secured connection setting
- Click on Save Changes
At the current time, these are the two easiest solutions to enact with the third of removing the Personal Account, which may not be a great option on personally owned devices.
