Mail bouncing when trying to send from Engineering Account

Mail bouncing when trying to send from Engineering Account

Problem

You send a messageĀ fromĀ yourĀ @engineering.ucsb.eduĀ fromĀ the GMail app on your phone, and a day later you get a bounce message saying it couldn't be delivered.

Reason

You may have your personal GMail Account on the GMail App and your Personal GMail has aĀ Send AsĀ addressĀ forĀ @engineer.ucsb.eduĀ account configured on it with the old mail server configuration.

Solution

There are two ways to deal with this issue.

Remove theĀ Send As account on the personal account

Ideally, you don't want to have your personal account having theĀ Send As account for the email address.

To remove it, you will want to do the following:

  1. Log onto your Personal GMail Account
  2. Click on theĀ Gear () icon in the upper right hand corner, then click onĀ Settings
  3. Click onĀ Accounts and Import
  4. Go to theĀ Send mail as: section and click onĀ delete next to the email address.

Update the Send As Account on the personal account

If you still want to be able to send email on your personal account asĀ yourĀ @engineering.ucsb.eduĀ account, you should update the information with the proper information:

To update, you will need to do the following:

  1. Log onto your Personal GMail Account
  2. Click on theĀ GearĀ () icon in the upper right hand corner, then click onĀ Settings
  3. Click onĀ Accounts and Import
  4. Go to theĀ Send mail as: section and click onĀ edit info next to the email address you need to update.
  5. Make sure the following settings are correct:
    1. SMTP Server is set toĀ smtp.gmail.com
    2. Username is set to your UCSBNetIDĀ withĀ @ucsb.eduĀ added (IE: joe@ucsb.edu)
    3. Password is set to your UCSBNetID Password.
    4. Use the recommended secured connection setting
  6. Click onĀ Save Changes

At the current time, these are the two easiest solutions to enact with the third of removing the Personal Account, which may not be a great option on personally owned devices.
